What Gives????

Blogs come and go…  One gets used to that idea and just mourns the dead ones that were good while forgetting the ones that were merely, well… how shall I say… just fillers….

Recently, however, I slowly began to notice that I wasn’t getting notifications of new posts on the blogs I usually follow. It took a while to make the connection because, as I say, blogs come and go (and bloggers sometimes take ‘vacations) ’, but, after a noticeable dearth of new post notifications, I began to get concerned.

I always used to get regular e-mail notices of new posts from One Man’s Meat and Stefan’s Gourmet Blog (to name just two excellent foodie blogs) but lately they seemed to have fallen silent. After checking, however, I discovered that said blogs are still in regular publication and, as I thought to confirm, I am still subscribed.

So… what gives?

I still get notifications from some blogs (and even then, just periodically) but otherwise I have been ‘in the dark’ lately. Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues?

  1. I’m not sure but I have noticed they have done something to the reader – the headlines for posts are in a weird font and you only see one ‘tag’. Its WP tinkering again…

    1. Yes, I’ve noticed that the reader is different too. Now, when you click on a post, it opens up a little window instead of taking you straight to read the post on the author’s blog. If you want to go to the blog, you have to click “View Original” at the top of the little window. It is quite irritating because it is less straightforward. I don’t like the new changes or the new fonts.

I haven’t had any issues with notifications so far.

  2. yes, one of my readers said that she wasn’t getting notifications anymore, and had to ‘re-sign up’ for it.

  3. Same here, but I also noticed that a new feature on my gmail account suddenly appeared: Categories: Social, Updates, Promotions and Forums. I found a lot of emails I’d missed in these folders, skipping my Inbox. After some cursing, I realized it was nice but I do wish someone would have let me know about the change! Maybe they had but it was in Updates. lol It seems as though, if you blink at the wrong time -swoosh, the world changes.

  4. I think I am missing a few connections!! My yahoo account has also changed it is so annoying – too many updates me thinks. I think all my wordpress connections are still here but many of the blogs I follow are on Blogger and it seems the two companies are not very compatable. I am still getting your posts through though – so I know there is still someone out there!

  5. I have had this happen, and it hits me kind of like you’re describing. I don’t immediately notice because I follow so many, and as you say, people take breaks! But when I get to wondering and check in to discover I’ve been missing someone, I “unfollow” and the “follow” again. In a couple of instances I’ve had to notify WordPress and they have been helpful. Occasionally I go through the names in my blogroll and avoid the Reader just to see if everything matches up! 🙂

  6. I follow Stefan’s Gourmet Blog, and I get great notifications almost every day. Perhaps you should try “unfollowing,” then follow again. I’ve tried that in the past, and it corrected the problem.

  7. I’m traveling at the moment…but there seems to be a problem with notifications. When I return home I may have to resubscribe.

  8. Why viewers still use to read news papers when in this technological world the whole thing
    is existing on net?

  9. Does your website have a contact page? I’m having trouble locating it but,
I’d like to shooot you an email. I’ve got some ideas for your blog you might be interested in hearing.

Either way, great blog and I look forward to seeing
    iit expand over time.
