Notable Restaurant Dishes (Page 2)

The restaurant dishes memorialized here were all served to me at one time or another. Most were excellent, and deserve to be remembered, while other were truly awful and are recorded as cautionary tales of what not to do. In either event, please feel free to browse for culinary inspiration.

Bone Marrow Appetizer at the Juniper in Vancouver

The Juniper Kitchen and Bar closed it’s doors just before the advent of Covid-19, but it was a very pleasant little bistro on the edge of Vancouver’s Chinatown. I first stopped by for a beer on a hot afternoon and I ended up returning a couple of times during a visit to the City and I found everything to be very well done. The Bone Marrow appetizer you see above didn’t quite suit my taste, but it was skillfully executed nevertheless.

Grilled Wild Boar at Sabor in Edmonton

I have previously mentioned the Sabor Restaurant in Edmonton in my review of their very nice Seafood Paella. I visited three times during that week and had some really good dishes, including the Tapas serving of Grilled Wild Boar shown above.

Unfortunately, the Yakitori appetizer pictured above really had little in common with the traditional Japanese specialty.

Scallops Grilled at Sorrentino’s in Edmonton

I managed to have a number of meals at Sorrentino’s in downtown Edmonton while I was visiting the City, and I was quite impressed with the place overall. Their Arancine Poutine Appetizer was very well executed, if a little rich for my taste, and was nicely plated. The Seared Scallop appetizer you see above was also generally well done, but what could have been a top-notch dish lost marks by the way it ended up being served.
