Notable Restaurant Dishes (Page 34)

The restaurant dishes memorialized here were all served to me at one time or another. Most were excellent, and deserve to be remembered, while other were truly awful and are recorded as cautionary tales of what not to do. In either event, please feel free to browse for culinary inspiration.

Beef Tataki at Sushi Nami

A Tataki, in Japanese cuisine can mean to different preparation techniques, but in this context, the most common, it refers to a piece of meat or fish that is quickly seared on the outside, leaving the interior barely warm, and then served sliced, usually with a sauce and garnishes. Chinese 'Burger' at Beaver Sailor

Chinese ‘Burger’ at the Beaver Sailor Diner in Halifax, Nova Scotia

I sampled the rather unique little dish you see pictured above at the Beaver Sailor Diner in Halifax. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not survive the outbreak if the Covid-19 pandemic, which was rather a it as it had a decent and very interesting menu. Octopus Grilled at the EVOO Restaurant

Octopus Grilled at the EVOO Restaurant in downtown Ottawa

EVOO, which I have always presumed to stand for ‘Extra Virgin Olive Oil’ is a terrific Greek restaurant in downtown Ottawa. In any event, Octopus tends to be something that Greek restaurants do very well and I can never resist either an appetizer, or main course featuring it, especially if it is grilled. The Grilled Octopus at EVOO actually fell just a little short of being worthy of top marks, but I still enjoyed it very much.
